Lifelong health and fitness starts in the kitchen, and the foundation of a healthy diet is minimally-processed whole foods. What this looks like in practice varies from person to person, but the general prescription is the same: Stay away from highly-processed foods filled with grains and sugars and instead try to get most of your meals from high quality, nutritionally-dense meats and seafood, seasonal vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. Invest in a frying pan, a knife, and some spices and your body will thank you for it!
How to start?
We are here to help you make a lifestyle transformation. Check out our June 2012 Nutrition Challenge to get an idea of where to begin. We’d love to talk to you about more personalized nutrition programs, whether it be an accountability partner and cheerleader or more help planning meals and learning to cook. Contact Becky at becky@solidaritycrossfit.com to discuss our one-on-one options.
Where can I get good food?
Living in Charlottesville means great access to local meats and produce – the Saturday farmer’s market, JM Stock Provisions, and the new Timbercreek Market are all within a leisurely walk/bike from the gym, to name just a few places!
Once you have the good stuff, follow our food blog, Solidarity Eats, for ideas!
